What is the phs Lifecycle Strategy?
The phs LifeCycle Strategy aims to annually divert up to 95% of our customers hygiene waste away from landfill and instead turn it into an alternative fuel source. This applies to all waste collected from sanitary and nappy bins by phs service technicians.
This strategy minimises our customers’ carbon footprint, making phs a partner of choice for businesses that care about working sustainably.
What happens to my waste after its collected?
We have partnered with Panda to ensure the hygiene waste we collect from our customers premises in Ireland is diverted away from landfill and turned into an alternative fuel source. Every year we are diverting more and more waste away from landfill.
Once phs has collected hygiene waste from businesses and public sector customers, this waste is then taken to Irish Packing Recycling (IPR). Once on site, solid hygiene waste goes through a process where it is shredded and dehydrated. This waste is then turned into Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), which is an alternative fuel source used to power cement kilns.
Typically cement kilns would be powered by coal or petroleum coke. However, Panda’s Solid Fuel Recovery system produces enough fuel to eliminate the need for 200,000 tonnes of coal excavation every year.
