Transforming the future of waste management
At phs, we are market leaders in hygiene services. Therefore, we believe we have a responsibility to create lasting change when it comes to waste management. Our services involve collecting a significant amount of hygiene waste from our customers premises, and it is our duty to deal with this waste responsibly.
What is the phs LifeCycle Strategy?
The phs LifeCycle Strategy aims to annually divert up to 95% of our customers hygiene waste away from landfill. In Ireland, we have partnered with Panda to ensure the hygiene waste we collect from our customers premises is diverted away from landfill and turned into an alternative fuel source.
This process not only minimises our own carbon footprint, but it also minimises our customers’ footprint, making phs a partner of choice.
How does the process work?
phs collects hygiene waste from businesses and public sector customers. This waste is then taken to Irish Packing Recycling (IPR). Once on site, solid hygiene waste goes through a process where it is shredded and dehydrated. This waste is then turned into Solid Recovered Fuel (SRF), which is an alternative fuel source used to power cement kilns.
Reducing reliance on coal
Typically cement kilns would be powered by coal or petroleum coke. Panda’s Solid Fuel recovery system produces enough fuel to eliminate the need for 200,000 tonnes of coal excavation every year.
